Teacher Training Preparatory Program
FAQ

Following is a list of common questions about our training program:

  • Is it possible to complete the Teacher Training Program from out-of-state?

Yes, it is possible to complete our program from long distance and long distance students are allotted two extra months to complete the program. Students must be prepared to travel to Boulder 5-7 times during their 14 months of training, but can arrange to complete the majority of their Internship requirements at an approved studio in their area. Students may choose to do their entrance evaluation exam by video, and must make those arrangements through The Pilates Center Training Coordinator.

  • What is involved in the Internship?

There are 750 internship hours that you must complete, including 200 observation (observing a certified instructor), 250 practice teaching (practice teaching a volunteer client), 150 personal workouts (working out on your own without instruction), 100 lessons (taking a lesson from a certified instructor) and 50 miscellaneous. In order to meet your required hours by the end of the year, you need to dedicate an average of 20 hours a week toward your Pilates training.

  • Do you have any satellite studios around the country?

Yes. List of Licensed Studios (independently owned) that offer the complete Teacher Training Program.

  • How should I prepare for the entrance evaluation exam?

To pass the entrance evaluation exam you need to be a proficient level III-IV in the Pilates method and without injury. Any of our graduates around the country can help prepare you for this. We also offer a Preparatory Program. The Preparatory Program must be done in Boulder or at a Licensed Studio.

  • I have been doing Pilates for the past year and plan on joining your Teacher Training Program this fall. Can I count any of those hours toward my internship hours?

No. Your hours will only count once you begin the program.

  • Do you help with job placement once I have completed the Teacher Training Program?

There are many facilities, both nationally and internationally, who prefer to hire only graduates of The Pilates Center Teacher Training Program. Although we do not officially offer job placement upon graduation, we do maintain an extensive list and network of graduates who own studios around the world. We frequently receive notice of these job opportunities throughout the year and make them available to our graduates.
